Donald L. Smith, 89, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Monday May 29, 2023 at his home.

He was born November 18, 1933 to Clyde and Anna (Smith) Smith in Punxsutawney.

Don was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses in Punxsutawney. Don was a retired veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served with the United States Army for 23 years. He received a Bronze Star with Valor, Purple Heart and the Military Service Medal among other service medals. Don was retired military but was also retired from G&C Coal Analysis Lab in Coolspring. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing, the outdoors, and tinkering in his garage. There was not a project Don couldn’t complete. He loved spending time with his family and was always willing to support them anyway he could.

He is survived by his wife of Ethel R. (Pierce) Smith of Punxsutawney, whom he married April 8, 1977.

Two daughters and two sons, Wessley A. and wife Melissa, Westmiddlesex, Thomas E. and wife Teresa, Ashland City, TN, Euverla L. Smith, Avonmore, Tammy D. Smith, Murfreesboro, TN, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren, a sister, Nancy Weaver, Stump Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Betty Kotula, and a brother William Smith.

Friends will be received on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of service at 10:00 AM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

Interment will take place at Lakelawn Memorial Park, Reynoldsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, PO Box 338, Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
