Allen J. Woods

Allen J. Woods, 64, of State College, formerly of Punxsutawney, passed away September 19, 2022 at Centre Care in Bellefonte, PA.

He was born May 27, 1958 to Edgar A. and Jessie (Lydic) Woods in Butler.

Allen was an active member of the Punxsutawney Alliance Church where he was a board member and the youth group leader. He graduated from the Punxsutawney Area High School in 1976. He then enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and after spending four years in the Marines he enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he graduated with a degree in education. Allen taught in Punxsutawney and Rocky Grove High School in Franklin before he became an investigative auditor supervisor with the Bureau of Auditor General for the state of Pennsylvania where he worked until his retirement. Allen enjoyed the outdoors and was always exercising and staying in shape. He also loved spending time with his family, particularly his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Patricia L. Woods of State College, whom he married August 15, 1987; three daughters, Jennifer N. Woods and John Kurpiewski,  Punxsutawney, Kristen M. Woods, Pittsburgh, and Tara J. Spearing and husband Quaid, State College; five grandchildren, Xaden Long, Adrienne Floyd, Meila Woods, Emma Woods, and Charlotte Spearing; his Mother Jessie Hickox, Brookville; a brother Arthur “Artie” Woods, Rossiter; a sister, Carol Melvin and husband Greg, FL; a brother-in-law James Breth and wife Brenda, Meadville; two sisters-in-law Nancy Breth, Clarion, and Pamela Carpin and husband Craig, Reynoldsville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Allen is preceded in death by his father Edgar Woods.

Friends will be received on Friday from 3-7 PM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.  Friends will also be received on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at the Punxsutawney Alliance Church, 1307 South Main St. Ext., Punxsutawney, PA 15767, with Pastor Don Jones officiating.
