Robert James Sunderland

Robert James “Bob” Sunderland, 84, of Mahaffey, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 at his home.

He was born July 29, 1941 to William T. and Bessie R. (Lee) Sunderland.

Bob attended the Mahaffey High School and graduated in 1960 from Purchase Line High School. He worked for Readers Digest in White Plains NY for over 20 years before his retirement. Bob attended Banner Ridge Church and he was a member of the Deer Run Rod and Gun Club. Bob was avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and hiking.

He is survived by eight siblings; Mary Pennington, Mahaffey, Shirley Sunderland, DuBois, Nancy DeYoung, Lewistown, Evelyn Slonaker and husband Isaiah, Zionsville, Janet Irvin and husband John, Homer City, Linda Hester, Salt Lake City, UT, Judy Steward and husband Kurt, Lewistown, and Roger Sunderland, Mahaffey and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher Sunderland, two sisters; Surilla Leamer and Catherine Snow, a brother, Thomas Sunderland and a nephew, Ronald Pennington.

Friends will be received at Waldron Funeral Home, 831 Market Street, Mahaffey, PA 15757 on Sunday, January 4, 2026 from 5-7 PM and on Monday January 5, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM with Pastor James Hurd officiating.
