Robert Lee Johnson, 96, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at his home surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born December 3, 1929 to Chester A. and Mary (Rowe) Johnson in Punxsutawney.

Bob was a graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School in 1947. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, serving with the United States Air Force. Bob graduated from IUP with a teaching degree and a Master’s degree from Penn State. He was a beloved and well-respected teacher for 42 years at Brookville High School. He had many interests and traveled extensively with his nephew Darren visiting 34 of the 50 states. Bob also traveled throughout Europe. He had many hobbies. He was a great photographer, an expert mechanic, interior decorator, as evident in his home, and woodworking. He made walking sticks and gave them to relatives and friends. Bob was the most generous man, always giving to anyone in need. It was a family joke, not to tell Bob you liked something, because he would give it to you on the spot. He was a man we all aspire to be, loving, kind, non-judgmental, empathetic, generous and authentic.

He is survived by his sister, Kay Sherry, Punxsutawney, two special nephews; Darren Sherry and wife Susan, OH, and Ken Sherry and wife Karin, NY, a special niece Mary Kay Sherry, Punxsutawney, who was his caregiver until the very end and two great nieces, Alyssa Sherry, NY and Jenna Sherry, NY, of whom he was very proud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters; Yvonne, Helen and Donna, and his best friend and brother-in-law Don Sherry.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

At Bob’s request, there will be no visitation. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.

The McCabe Funeral Home of Punxsutawney, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
