Nellie Larue Penrod, 92 of Punxsutawney, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Mulberry Square Elder Care & Rehabilitation Center. Nellie was born February 8, 1926 in Punxsutawney the daughter of the late Clay Thornton Kanouff and Sallie Mae (Lunger) Kanouff. May 10,1948 she married her beloved husband Ralston Weir Penrod who preceded her in death on March 24, 2001. She is survived by three children; Linda Ann Wakefield and husband William of New Florence, Joyce Penrod of Punxsutawney and Christopher Penrod also of Punxsutawney. Four grandchildren; Flanna Soliday and husband William of Irwin, Penny Wakefield Shank and husband Paul of Rosamond, CA., Bryan Wakefield and wife Bree of Painted Post, NY. and Jennifer Yeager and husband Brett of Bethlehem. Six great-grandchildren; Connor Shank, Kade and Madigan Wakefield and Camrey, Aubrey and Luke Yeager. Larue as she preferred to be called was a Registered Nurse and longtime employee of the Punxsutawney Area Hospital and the former Adrian Hospital as a Maternity Nurse until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church in Punxsutawney where she sang in the choir for many years. At Mrs. Penrod's request there will be no viewing. A graveside memorial service will be held on May 10, 2018 at Circle Hill Cemetery on the date of her wedding anniversary. In lieu of flowers please make donation's to the Woodland Avenue United Methodist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney .
