Mason J. Neal

Mason Jeffrey Neal, age 23, of Punxsutawney passed away on September 17, 2026. 

Born on May 5, 2003, Mason is the son of Jeffrey Scott Neal and Beth Meehan Neal; the brother, both by blood and by choice, of Adison John Neal, Andrew Scott Neal, Ben David McConnaughey, and Alex Brian Gaffney; and the friend of many. He also leaves behind his grandfather, Terry Neal, Sr. 

Mason was preceeded in death by his paternal grandmother, Sharon Neal; maternal grandparents, John and Nancy Meehan, and a chosen brother, Sean McConnaughey.

Mason was a 2021 graduate of Punxsutawney Area School District. Mason made it to his high school graduation ceremony just in time to proudly stand in his muddy Muck Boots when those who planned to enter the military were asked to stand. In October 2021, Mason followed through on that commitment by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He graduated from basic training at Parris Island on January 6th, 2022. Mason was stationed in Okinawa, Japan before being discharged as a Corporal in spring of 2025.

Upon returning home, Mason began working at Eagle Railcar Services and later obtained the necessary training to earn his CDL. Most recently, he was employed with Parking Lot Painting (PLP) in DuBois, PA.

Mason enjoyed hunting, fishing, shooting, fireworks, and, most of all, making lasting memories with his friends. Mason loved his cats, Big Show and Meatball. He had a love for strong flavored foods and a strong desire to live life to the fullest. He may not have had a lot of years in his life, but he sure had a lot of life in those years.
