Marlin Dean "Pete" Bowser

Marlin Dean “Pete” Bowser, 86, of McGees Mills, passed away on September 27, 2026, reuniting with his wife, his parents, and two of his brothers (Edwin and Darrell) in Heaven.

Born in McGees Mills, on April 19, 1940, Dean was the third of seven children of Franklin and Dorothy (Peace) Bowser. Dean attended Mahaffey and Purchase Line High Schools until he left school early to work at the family farm and lumber business.

He married Wanda Lou (Penvose) on February 20, 1960 and welcomed his son Russel Dean Bowser the same year. He spent his twenties racing ‘Car 89- The Bonnie and Clyde Getaway Car’ at local dirt tracks including Hummingbird and Pine Valley, working the farm, and building Bowser Lumber which he co-owned with his two older brothers and their mother. It was also during this decade that his father passed away.

In his thirties, he moved his family into the house he built beside his brothers and the business on Route 36 near McGees Mills and welcomed his daughter Amy Berdett Lee.

The next thirty years included continued success in both business and personal hobbies. In the spring of 2000, he happily gained his only grandchild, Brayden Dean Bowser and by late summer, had sadly lost both his mother and wife.

The final two and a half decades brought Dean new interests, including competitive bench rest shooting, eating out, and watching his small family grow as he welcomed two great-grandchildren, Greyson and Jade. He didn’t get the opportunity to spend much time with them as his physical health began to deteriorate and he needed more assistance. The final few years were spent at DuBois Village and then DuBois Nursing Home.

He leaves behind his son Russel, daughter Amy, grandson Brayden, great- grandchildren, Greyson and Jade, daughter-in-law Barbra, son-in-law Stephen Lee, and his grandson’s soon-to-be wife Payten Adams. He is also survived by brothers, Ronald Bowser, Gerald (Shirley) Bowser, and Robert Bowser, sister Janet (Bill) Harter, and a multitude of nieces, nephews and extended family from both the Bowser and the Penvose families.

Visitors will be received on Wednesday from 3pm to 7pm at McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday from 10am until the time of service at 11am with Pastor Paul Price officiating.

Interment will be in Davis Cemetery

The family requests that no physical tributes be sent. If you wish to honor Dean in some way, spend a day outside in nature or visiting a loved one who you haven’t seen recently.
