Marilyn A. "Marty" Rhodes

November 30, 1930 — December 15, 2018

Marilyn Ann "Marty" (McQuown) Rhodes, age 88, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 15, 2018, at UPMC Shadyside. She was a resident of AM/PM Personal Care Home. Marty was born in Punxsutawney, on November 30, 1930 to the late Claire and Alva McQuown. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Clark A. Rhodes. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls Advisor. Throughout the years, Marty worked at G.C. Murphy's and J.C. Penney's. She was a school monitor for Punxsutawney Area High School , delivered meals on wheels for many years and volunteered her time for the voting poles and registration. She enjoyed tending the beautiful flowers she and Clark grew in their yard. She was also a runner up for the garden of the month. She loved to cook and make delicious apple pies. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and also delivered her own homemade meals to friends and family if they were sick. She loved her card clubs and square dancing with her many friends. Surviving relatives include one son, C. Douglas Rhodes and wife Miranda of Charlotte, NC.; daughter, Janice Sandy and husband Frank of Punxsutawney; four grandchildren, Ryan Sandy, Brianne Ryen, Jonathan Rhodes and Caitlin Rhodes; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Bernice Mohney, brother-in-law, Ernest Mohney; sisters-in-law, Barbara Verdill, Gladys Paterson and Betty Rhodes, along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Marilyn was preceded in death by three sisters; Sally Keyes, Doris Bloom, Helen Mack and one brother, Ron McQuown. Friends will be received on Friday, December 21, 2018 ,from 9 am until 11 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney , where a service to celebrate Marty's life will be held at 11 with Pastor Doug Wolfe officiating. Private interment will follow in Circle Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Mrs. Rhodes' name may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or the Lindsey Fire Company Widows Fund.
