Larry Edward Neiswonger, 79 of Punxsutawney, went to sleep in The Lord on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Punxsutawney Area Hospital.
Larry was born September 4, 1941 in Fairmount City, the only son of the late Clair (Bud) Neiswonger and Esther Hilliard Neiswonger.
On January 12, 1962, he married Marilyn Kay White who preceded him.
Larry was a 1959 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. During his early years he worked for the former Benson Poultry, processing and delivering chickens. He then began a long-term career as a heavy equipment operator with P&N Coal Company until disability forced his early retirement. Early on in his retirement, he and Marilyn served as foster parents for eleven years with Specialized Family Foster Care of Johnstown. He was a lifelong member of Canoe Ridge Church of God in Rossiter where he assisted with building the addition to the church and briefly served as a Sunday School teacher.
Larry was an avid sportsman. In his early years, he participated in archery competitions held at the former Punxsutawney Sportsmen’s Club. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid gun collector and Civil War and WWII buff. Two of his favorite vacation spots were Lancaster County and Gettysburg. During his retirement years, Larry became the family genealogist. He was also an animal lover and especially adored his faithful companion, an Australian Shepherd named Missy.
Larry is survived by three daughters, Dana Emmell of Punxsutawney, Darla Stanford and husband Samuel of Burnside, and Rebecca Neiswonger of Big Run; five grand-children, Brittany Hutchinson and husband William of Northern Cambria, Nyssa Zambory and husband Colin of Punxsutawney, Samuel Stanford of Pittsburgh, and Justine Freedline and Ariel Neiswonger, both of Big Run; two great-granddaughters, Laci and Peyton Hutchinson of Northern Cambria; a “great-granddog,” Ziggy Zambory; his faithful companion pet Missy, and close friends Carl Pape and Richard Kelly.
Friends will be received from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney followed by a funeral service officiated by Rev. Carl White and a dinner to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a charity of the donor’s choice in Larry’s memory.
