Joseph E. Horner, 79, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at his home.

He was born December 4, 1945 to Thomas M. and Zora H. (Reams) Horner in Punxsutawney.

Joe was Christian by faith. He was an insurance agent with Prudential for 30 years. Joe was extremely active in the community in his younger years. He was a former Little League President and was instrumental in raising funds for the lights at the Little League ball fields. He enjoyed farming, his yearly walleye fishing trips to Canada, hunting and snowmobiling. Joe loved his family dearly and was the true definition of a family man.

He is survived by his wife Bernadette “Bernie” M. (Bianco) Horner, Punxsutawney, two daughters and a son, Michelle L. Horner Grau and husband Harold, Newport News, VA, Michael J. Horner and wife Kim, and Julie A. Horner, all of Punxsutawney, grandchildren, Tyler F. Grau (Rachel), Rachel L. Salamone (Jeff), Benjamin G. Grau (Kayla), Sienna M. Grau (Joshua), Havana J. Grau, Samuel J. Grau, Emily R. Renninger (Tyler), Anna L. Horner, Jacob M. Horner (Jazmyn), and Kate M. Horner, great grandchildren Danica, Charlotte, Avery, Kennly, Alexander, Nora, and Payton, a sister C. Jane Horner, Punxsutawney, two brothers-in-law Edward Skarbek and Joseph Bell, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Avanell Horner, Elva Curry, Ruth LaFord, Bessie Whitesell, Shirley Wright, and Mae Bell, a sister-in-law and many brothers-in-law.

Friends will be received on Monday from 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM and from 6:00- 8:00 PM and also on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Saints Cosmas and Damian Catholic Church, 616 West Mahoning St., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.

Interment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, Punxsutawney, PA.

Memorial donations may be made to SSCD Parish or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
