Rossiter

Jonathan R. Pierce, 34, of Rossiter, was called home on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh with his family by his side.

He was born April 24, 1989, to John B. and Penny (Janocha) Pierce at Maple Avenue Hospital in DuBois.

Jonathan was a 2008 graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School.  After high school he went on to attend McCann School of Business where he earned an associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology.  Jonathan worked as a medical lab technician at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

He valued his relationship with Jesus and was an active member of the First Church of God in Punxsutawney. He volunteered his time at the church with the audio and video crew during services, with Caring and Sharing for Kids, and was a counselor at Celebrate Recovery. In his youth, he was a Make-A-Wish child and a Hunt of a Lifetime recipient. According to his nephew Miles, he was a perfect uncle. Jonathan enjoyed playing video games, cooking, baking pies, and playing adventure and table top games with his cousins. He was also passionate about painting and tending to his vegetable garden with his father.

Jonathan was a longtime EPP and cancer survivor. During his lifetime he was documented numerous times in medical journals where his procedures were ground breaking for treating various diseases. He was known to say “As long as this helps one person, it’s worth it.” Jonathan was an organ donation advocate. He received his liver transplant from Colleen and his kidney transplant from his sister Jaimie.

He is survived by his parents, a sister Jaimie A. Pierce Hedrick (Matthew) of Sykesville, MD, a nephew Miles James Hedrick, grandmother Patricia “Bubba” Janocha, Rossiter. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, extended family members and his cat Carmel.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, John “Judda” Janocha, paternal grandparents Harold Pierce and Clara Jane (Shields) Pierce, and an uncle Jim Janocha.
