Gerald "Jerry, Red, Reddog" Gearhart, age 86, died on Monday, January 14, 2019 at his home. He was born on November 29, 1932 in Lumber City to Victor Grier and Helen (Maurey) Gearhart. After graduating from Curwensville Area High School, he enlisted in the US Army in 1951 and served in the 522 nd Infantry Division during the Korean War. After serving his country, he married Doris "Polly" Witherite who preceeded him in death. He worked for Georgia Marble in Atlanta, GA. for 19 years and Curwensville Construction Co. for 18 years. Until one year ago, he was the go to man at Kuntz Motors in Mahaffey. He did whatever was needed, running for parts, delivering cars and picking up cars from the auction. In his later years he was affectionately known as "Pappy" or "Reddog". He enjoyed planting a garden every spring and hunting each fall. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by 3 children; Cindy and Johnny Lemon of Conway, SC., Jim Gearhart of Curwensville and Wendy and Carl Kuntz of Mahaffey. 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 brother; Neal Gearhart of Maryland and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceeded in death by 1 son; Robert Sharrer, 1 infant grandson, 3 brothers; Don, Glen, Bob and 2 sisters; Dorothy and Jean. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 3 :30 pm at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church, Main Street, Mahaffey, PA. 15757. He along with the ashes of his wife, will be scattered together at his favorite hunting spot at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church.
