Eugene E. Rolls, 85, of Littlestown, PA passed away on October 23, 2023, at UPMC-Memorial Hospital in
York, PA after a brief illness.
Gene was born in Punxsutawney to Silas Alvin Rolls and Sara Luellen Armstrong Rolls of Fairview. He
attended Punxsutawney High School and graduated in 1955. He graduated from Clarion State College in 1962
and began his teaching career at Eisenhower High School in Russell, PA where he was also a basketball and
baseball coach, as well as an Athletic Director. In 1972, he moved the family to Maryland and taught at
Brunswick High School and later at John T. Baker Jr. High School in Damascus, MD where he retired in 1998.
He enjoyed teaching, mentoring and coaching youth as well as spending time with his wife, children,
grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He coached the Civitans Little League baseball team as well as many
All-Star teams in the Frederick National Little League in Frederick, MD for over 20 years. He was also an avid
fisherman and enjoyed his annual trip to Canada with his father and brothers.
He is survived by his wife Gail Oliver Rolls and his children Elaine Berry (Ron Cekovich) of Hagerstown, MD,
Dave Rolls (Niccole) of Frederick, MD, Emily Kephart (Jerry) of Frederick, MD, and Ellen Rollman (Arthur)
of New Market, MD; siblings Janet Rolls Miller (Culver) of Lynchburg, VA, John Rolls (Priscilla) of Wake
Forest, NC and Jean Duncan Rolls (Richard) of Russell, PA; grandchildren Dave Berry, Megan Berryoung
(Tivoli), Nicholas Shelley, Hollister Bowling (Andrew), Jarrett Rolls (Jordan), Sara Kephart, Dalton Kephart,
Patrick Rollman, Madison Angus (Dontae), and Greyson Rollman; great-grandchildren Olivia Berry, Liam
Shelley, Colton Shelley and Hannah Shelley and a special nephew, Randy Rolls, with whom he corresponded
daily.
He was preceded in death by his parents Silas and Sara, and siblings James Rolls, Marian Stamler, Ellen Joan
James, and Richard Rolls.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Journey Church at 301 W. Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney, PA 15767
or to a local youth sports league. Gene was a big believer in keeping the cost of youth sports programs low so it
is accessible to all who wish to participate.
Friends will be received from 5-7pm on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Avenue,
Punxsutawney. The family will also receive visitors on Saturday, Nov 4, 2023 from 10 am until the time of service at 11am at Journey Church, 301 W. Mahoning Street, Punxsutawney. A graveside service at Union Hill Cemetery in Rossiter will follow.
