Donald "Shag" Slovinsky

June 8, 1936 — February 6, 2016

Donald "Shag" Slovinsky Sr., 79 of Punxsutawney, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, February 6, 2016 peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Slovinsky was born June 8, 1936 in Sagamore, a son of the late George and Catherine (Grundy) Slovinsky.

He was married to Genevieve (Agnello) Slovinsky who preceded him in death.

He was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.

He owned and operated Shags Shoe Repair in the 1970's and was retired from Rola Jensen in 1999. He was a member of the MOOSE, VFW, Eagles and the American Legion. He loved having early morning coffee visits with his friends, taking short road trips, helping with handyman jobs and playing the lottery. He was also known for making the best salads.

Shag is survived by two sons; Donald Slovinsky, Jr. of Big Run, Robert Slovinsky of Rockton, two daughters; Mary LaBelle and Diane Hanley both of Punxsutawney, eight grandchildren; Shane Hanley, Marcie Wolfe, Jessica Ciello, Michelle Elliott, Josh Slovinsky, Rachelle Slovinsky, Brett and Jared Mallory and several great grandchildren. Five brothers; George Slovinsky and wife Irene of Ravenna, OH., Joseph Slovinsky of Sagamore, Mike Slovinsky and wife Carol of Berkley Springs, WV., Dave Slovinsky and wife Penny of Creekside, Steve Slovinsky and wife Carol of Warren, OH., two sisters; Catherine Lewis of Detroit, MI., Rita Ann Jurt and husband Gene of Home, special nieces; Paula Schrock and Kim Fairman and several other nieces and nephews. Also surviveing are Sahg's extended family; Donna and Mike Defelice, Chase Defelice and family and Lindsay (Defelice) Kendra and family.

In addition to his wife Genevieve, he is preceded in death by a son; Richard Slovinsky, three brothers; John, Paul and Damian Slovinsky and one sister; Lillian Krecota.

Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday, February, 9, 2016 at the McCabe Funeral Home in Punxsutawney.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor David Nagele officiating.

Interment is private.
