Carol Burkett

Carolyn D. “Carol” Burkett, 83, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday October 2, 2026 at the Punxsutawney Area Hospital.

Carol was born March 14, 1943 to John and Rachael M. (Kennedy) Elkin in Punxsutawney.

She was a 1961 graduate of the Punxsutawney Area High School. She married Robert E. Burkett on May 23, 1964. Together they shared 62 years. She was a member of the First Church of God and Punxsutawney Quilter’s Guild. Carol enjoyed quilting, cooking, sewing, watching animal movies, and visiting and dining at Lonnie’s Family Restaurant. Most of all she loved spending time with her family, and attending her grandchildren’s waterskiing competitions. Carol was known for her welcoming smile and joyous laughter.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Rhonda L. MacIntyre and husband Lawrence, Knoxville, TN, Melodie A. Petrovsky and husband Bob, Punxsutawney, two grandchildren, Dr. Kara E. MacIntyre and husband Dr. Steven C. Scherping, Chapel Hill, NC, and Zachary R. MacIntyre, Glendale, CA and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at the McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., 114 Maple Ave., Punxsutawney, PA 15767.
