Punxsutawney

Karyn Kay (Limerick) Farbo, of Pueblo West, Co., formerly of Punxsutawney, Pa passed away September 4, 2022.

Karyn was born in Punxsutawney on August 3, 1946, the daughter of the late William and Mercedes (Guilfoyle) Limerick.

Karyn attended St. Paul the Apostle church in Pueblo West, Colorado. Karyn had quite a unique employment history ranging from working at Painter’s (Esso) EXXON Station book working and pumping gas. A former gas customer, Bruno Farbo, eventually became her husband! She also was an announcer for WPXZ radio station and writer for The Punxsutawney Spirit newspaper and Punxsutawney Hometown magazine. She was employed by Fullington Tours as a tour guide, which she thoroughly enjoyed. A past member of Punxsutawney Theatre Arts Guild, she performed for decades acting, singing and dancing and was involved in their Touring Company, dinner theater and summer shows at Verna Leigh Sawmill Theatre, Cook Forest. A few of Karyn’s many talents and hobbies include traveling, baking, decorating, music, dancing, singing, crocheting, painting, ceramics, collecting anything Wizard of Oz and Statue of Liberty and collecting shells at the beach. She wrote “family newsletters” with the latest news and family updates.  Fashion was also at the top of her list of things she loved, and she could shop from 9 am to 9 pm. There were a few occasions when the security guard had to unlock the door to let her out of the store at closing time. Karyn and her sister Colleen had many enjoyable years attending dances at The Lamplighter. Karyn’s son Christopher was the light of her life. They had a yearly tradition of “dying eggs” for Easter which they had done every year since he was born. Prior to moving to Colorado, Karyn volunteered at Mulberry Square providing karaoke entertainment for the residents.

Karyn is survived by her son Christopher Farbo and wife Holly Markiewicz Farbo, Holly’s daughter Alexis (Patrick) and grandson Liam and future granddaughter Luna., six siblings: Shannon (Henry) Gnas and children Amber and Ariana; Colleen McKenzie and children Todd, Timothy (Melanie) Sean and Shannon; Michael (Michele) and children Jeremy (Holly) and Jessica (Jonathan) Neese; Patrick and children Correy (Deanna) Jade Emhoff (Aaron) and children, Philip (Chantalle) and children, Laurie Limerick and children Jesse (Rebecca) and Olivia Seiff and boyfriend Jared, Kelley Limerick-Hand (Steven) and children, Dr. Harlan Chambers, (Anusorn), Landon Chambers (Dr. Jessica Chambers) and Skylar Chambers. She is also survived by her aunt Lois Guilfoyle. Karyn would also like to acknowledge her dear cousins Peggy (Dan) Prutznal and Jackie (Mark) Meighan and recently deceased cousin Kathy “Jo” Painter. In addition, her friend Pam Nichol from Punxsutawney and two dear and supportive friends from church Cynthia Crowther and Therese Simony. Karyn had special fondness for her nephew Sean Scalise who would play tricks on her and tease her mercilessly, but all in good fun. She welcomed him every Wednesday for dinner while he was attending IUP and cried when she was shown his acceptance letter to a job he has wanted since he was 5. Karyn also is survived by many fur babies, she always had room for one more.

She was married to Bruno Farbo, who preceded her in death.
