John F. Painter, 76, of Punxsutawney, passed away on Friday April 8, 2022 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

He was born August 31, 1945 to Budd H. and Jewell (Fowler) Painter in Dardanelle, Arkansas.

John was a 1962 graduate of Punxsutawney Area High School. In November of 1963 he married Ethel L. Stauffer. He worked for the Punxsutawney Borough for 18 years before owning and operating his Coal Trucking business for over 31 years. John was widely known from his CB handle “Horse Theif” He owned a fleet of eight trucks at one time. While owning his business, John went back to work for the borough and Lakelawn Memorial Park before his retirement in in 2004. He had a lifelong passion for horses and antique cars. His family joked, that Johns favorite saying was “It can’t be done”.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ethel L. Painter, Punxsutawney, a daughter, Pam Dinger, Punxsutawney, three grandchildren, Hayle Noble, Erik Dinger and spouse Amanda, Karissa Dinger, all of Punxsutawney, three great grandchildren, Tristian, Jaxon and Emmett Noble, three sisters, JoAnn Strnad and husband Stanley, Arkansas, Rose Stewart and husband Johnny, Arkansas, Carol Smith and husband Gary, Punxsutawney, a brother Howard Painter, Punxsutawney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son John Brian Painter and his oldest daughter Tammie Painter.

A private family final farewell was celebrated at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc, of Punxsutawney.
